SpeakUp For Safety
& Gaggle
This is the presentation shared with students regarding our SpeakUp For Safety Initiative.
Posters are strategically placed around school to make it as easy as possible for students to SpeakUp.
Students are also be sent an email onece a month from Gaggle to remind them of the SpeakUp services & options.
Reaching out to an Adult is always an option as well.
Gaggle Safety Management
Using district tools, there is an expectation that you will use them responsibly and appropriately. The District is Federally mandated by the Children’s Internet Protection Act to provide protections from inappropriate content.
Students can also use Gaggle as a way to ask for help. Whether it is typing something in a document to get flagged as a call for help because you cannot talk to someone, or using the SpeakUp For Safety tip line, there are people on the other end who can help you and provide support. You are not alone.
This is a reminder that student accounts are monitored. Inappropriate use, vulgarity, threats, bullying, will and can be identified and reported to the district. First two violations, a warning will be sent reminding you of appropriate use. The third warning will trigger an email to the district and follow-up will happen.
What is inappropriate content or behavior?
Profanity
Inappropriate pictures
Bullying or disrespectful comments
Other content that violates the BDSD Code of Conduct as outlined in our Student Handbook
What are the consequences?
Warning
Meeting with the SEL team and possibly the Principals and Technology Department
Loss or limitation of technology privileges
Other disciplinary actions
Bottom line … think before you send. If it is not something you would be proud to send to someone whose opinion you respect, don’t send it!
